The fastest way to look like spam
is to get the name wrong.
You set up the personalization. You wrote the flow. You hit send.
And your list wrote “Hi JANE,” to 40,000 people. Or worse, “Hi ,”.
First Name Cleaner finds the broken names in your list and fixes them at the source. When a name is missing, it pulls it from the email address. When it can’t be sure, it asks instead of guessing. It never writes a name it made up.

Before
JANE After
JaneI built this because I got tired of “Hi JANE.”
I run marketing. For years the job meant inheriting a list from somewhere, a scraped export, a checkout, a Meta lead form, a CRM three migrations deep, and finding the first-name column half-broken. ALL CAPS. Full names jammed in one field. Blanks. A company name where a person should be.
So I did what you’ve probably done. I cleaned them by hand, across our own clients, one screen at a time, because I wasn’t going to send “Hi ,” to somebody’s customer.
Then I built the thing that does it in an afternoon instead of a quarter. We run it on our own clients’ lists every day. Now you can too.

It’s not a typo. It’s every send.
Your flow opens with {{first_name}}. Your cold sequence opens with
{{firstName}}. Same field, same problem: for a chunk of your list, that token
renders wrong, every time it fires.
- It’s the checkout that captured
"H"instead of"Harry". - It’s the Meta lead form that wrote
"SARAH JOHNSON"into the first-name field. - It’s the Apollo export where the name is
"j.smith"in lowercase. - It’s the CSV from three years ago that nobody ever looked at.
- It’s the contact with a blank name and a flow that opens “Hi ,”.
To your customer, it reads as one thing: this is a mass email, and I’m a row in it.
Same campaign. Same list. One field apart.
The broken send
Hi JENNIFER,
we thought you’d love this.
The clean send
Hi Jennifer,
we thought you’d love this.
Identical copy. The only difference is the name your customer actually uses.
A wrong name doesn’t just look bad. It gets read less.
A broken greeting is the first line of the message, and people decide whether to keep reading right there. “Hi JENNIFER,” in shouting caps, or “Hi ,” with nobody home, reads as a mistake. On a cold list it costs you the reply. On a Klaviyo flow it costs you the open, on the exact sends that carry a big share of your revenue.
GetResponse found that personalized subject lines pulled lower open rates than generic ones: 18.79% against 22.14%. The reason was wrong personalization. Get it right and the same study saw body personalization beat generic by 14%.
GetResponse
Getting the name right is table stakes. The problem is the name is usually wrong, and nobody’s checking the field it comes from.
One tool. Both name problems.
Most lists have both running at once. We handle both.
When the wrong name is there
JENNIFER, jennifer, a full name in the first-name slot, a title,
an emoji, a stray "test". Real values, just wrong. We catch the obvious ones
instantly and send the judgment calls to a review queue.
When no name is there at all
A blank field and a flow that opens “Hi ,”. When the email has a name in it, like
jerry.jenkins@example.com, we pull it out. When it’s a generic inbox
(info@, sales@) or a number with nothing to read, we flag it for
your review. We do not write a guess to your list.
Safe to run on your real list.
A fix should never cost you a name you already had.
We never overwrite a good name
A valid “Robert” stays “Robert,” even when his email looks like it might say otherwise. We only touch a field that was empty or broken to begin with.
We ask instead of guessing
When a name has a second word we can’t place (is Mihalco a middle name or a last name?), we hold it for your review. A blank we can’t fill honestly stays blank and flagged.
Your originals are saved
Every original value is backed up before anything changes. Don’t like a fix? One click puts it back.
What we find. What we fix.
Robert · email rsmith@… Margaret Mihalco info@acme.com JANE mckay jane.doe123@gmail.com Ka'Lena Real input shapes, real engine output. Your list has all of these.
We don’t just sell this. We run on it.
First Name Cleaner wasn’t built in a lab to be demoed. It runs every day on the lists behind the brands we work with, and not one good name gets overwritten.
The lists behind these run through it
Connect. Scan. Fix.
No CSV wrangling. Nothing changes without your sign-off.
1
Connect
Connect Klaviyo with an API key, link your HubSpot or Mailchimp account, or drop in a CSV. No dev ticket, no export-and-reimport dance. We only touch the first-name field, and we save your originals so any change is reversible.
2
Scan
We read every profile. Pattern matching catches the obvious breaks fast: ALL CAPS, all lowercase, a full name jammed in the first-name field, titles, emoji, junk like “test”. The cases that need judgment go to a second pass.
3
Fix
You see every suggested change with a confidence score before anything moves. Approve in bulk or one at a time. Your original values are saved before anything changes, so one click puts it all back.
New contacts arrive every day, from forms, checkouts, lead ads, imports, and they come in broken the same way the old ones did. That’s what the List Intake Monitor is for: it cleans every new profile as it arrives, so you set this up once and stop thinking about it.
Questions we hear a lot.
Why not just use the | title filter in Klaviyo?
Because a filter fixes the display, not the data. The broken name is still in your database. It still syncs dirty to Meta Custom Audiences. It still exports to your CRM. It still shows up when your support team looks someone up. | title is duct tape on one email. We fix the record everything else reads from.
Will this mess up my existing data?
No. Before we write anything back, we show you a full preview of every change. Your original values are saved before anything changes. You approve in bulk or record by record. We don’t delete anything. If you hate what we did, restore in one click.
Can you really pull a first name out of an email?
When the address has a name in it, yes. jerry.jenkins@example.com has a first name sitting right there, and we pull it. When it’s a generic inbox (info@, sales@) or a number-only local part like 4829301@, we flag it for your review instead of writing a guess to your list.
Why not just do this in ChatGPT?
You can. We have too, for 500 names. For 5,000 it’s an afternoon. For 50,000 it’s a project that slides to next quarter, then next year, then never. And it doesn’t write back to your list on its own. First Name Cleaner runs against your list directly and writes the clean names back. No copy, paste, re-import.
Why not use Insycle or a full CRM data tool?
Insycle starts at $299 a month with a 25,000-record minimum, built for data teams standardizing every field across systems. If that’s you, great. If you’re a marketer who just wants the first name to be right, that’s us.
What if my list has names in other languages?
We handle Latin-script names across major languages, including hyphenated names, apostrophes, and accents. Names in non-Latin scripts (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic) we leave exactly as we found them rather than guess. Better to be honest about an edge case than to quietly mangle something we shouldn’t touch.
Simple pricing. No minimum.
The other tools in this space start at $299 a month with a 25,000-record minimum (Insycle), or $800 a month for a full enrichment platform (Clay). We do one thing. Start free.
